want to win money playing Video Poker then you need
to be unconventional. You are not going to win jackpots
very often so you need to increase your chances. The
way to do that is to do things that will help your long-term
chances but hurt you in the short run. Let’s explain.
Normal video poker strategy is
based on the premise of getting you a little bit back
on your return. The problem with a normal strategy is
that eventually the house edge will grind you down.
If you want to win money at video poker you have to
hit some jackpots. Let’s take an example to illustrate.
Let’s say you are playing a Jacks or Better machine
and get two Kings, an Ace, a 10 and a two with a the
Ace, King and Ten all of the same suit. You already
have a guaranteed payout with the pair of Kings but
you need to throw one of them away along with the two
and go for the royal flush. Most players won’t
do it because they are throwing away a certain payoff
with the Kings. The problem with keeping the Kings is
that you have no chance at the Royal. And this example
happens all the time in video poker. Let’s say
it was that same example and only the Ace and the King
were of the same suit. You still throw away the other
King and the sure payout to go for the royal. It is
not easy to throw away a certain payout but if you want
a better chance of hitting the jackpot playing video
poker it is something you need to do.
